About the Director
Zachary Wong, MA, BA, DipABRSM, LMusTCL, ALCM, RYT-500
"I believe music must be a lifelong journey. I refuse to let my students become passionate musicians who are silenced by preventable physical injuries." — Zachary Wong
Pedagogical Approach & Structural Alignment
Zachary’s teaching philosophy bridges elite academic rigour with a deep-seated passion for musical artistry. He believes that true expressive freedom is only possible when the body is in total harmony with the instrument. Drawing from 20 years of experience and his RYT-500 certification, Zachary integrates biomechanical efficiency with interpretive nuance. By focusing on structural musculoskeletal alignment, he helps students eliminate the physical tension that often hinders artistic growth. This allows them to move beyond mere notes and focus on tonal weighting, historical phrasing, and emotional storytelling. > Whether navigating a complex Baroque fugue or a demanding Romantic concerto, Zachary’s students develop a sophisticated musical voice supported by an ergonomic foundation that ensures lifelong performance health. This synthesis of physical ease and stylistic integrity consistently guides pupils to Merit and Distinction-level results in ABRSM and Trinity examinations, ensuring that students meet the rigorous demands of high-stakes auditions with confidence and poise.
Academic Heritage & Multicultural Performance
Zachary’s pedagogical foundation is built upon rigorous institutional training. He holds a Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from Hong Kong Baptist University—where his dissertation on Baroque keyboard repertoire was supervised by Professor David Chung—and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Musicology from the prestigious University of Hong Kong. His undergraduate tenure involved intensive choral conducting under Dr. Michael Ryan, as well as being a student conductor at the university choir, alongside highly specialised performance roles as a bass singer and a Balinese Gamelan player. This rich, multicultural academic background allows Zachary to offer a uniquely profound, analytical approach to Western classical instruction.

Pedagogy Assessment
Zachary’s visiting studio is a dedicated space for musical growth and technical refinement. To ensure a highly personalised strategy for every student, the journey begins with a formal Initial Pedagogy Assessment.
The Diagnostic Session
This session provides a clear roadmap for the student’s development. Beyond evaluating musicality, Zachary focuses on biomechanical and ergonomic alignment—identifying and correcting physical tension that may hinder technical progress. Following the session, Zachary outlines a bespoke Pedagogical Pipeline for upcoming examinations, scholarships, or advanced performance goals.
Intermediate Assessment (Grade 4–5) * 45 minutes | £60
Focus: Technical foundations and ergonomic health
Advanced & Scholarship Assessment (Grade 6+) * 60 minutes | £75
Focus: Advanced technical refinement, stylistic interpretation, audition strategy, and (for vocalists) adolescent vocal transitions
Important: Music Scholarship Candidates
The music scholarship pipeline is ideally a multi-year commitment, typically commencing around Year 4 or 5 to allow for the necessary technical and repertoire depth for 11+ entry. For enquiries starting in Year 6, the focus shifts to an Intensive Audition Audit. Admission is subject to a review of "audition readiness" and may require an intensive lesson schedule to meet the rigorous demands of 11+ and 13+ entry.
